Building a Watch Collection
|On our previous blogs, we have discussed how to identify authentic watches from fake watches as well as the do’s and don’ts of having a watch collection. Now, it’s time to talk about how you can build your watch collection.
A watch is a fashion accessory that gets taken for granted but civilizations have went to great distances to be able to tell time. Wearing a watch can be taken for granted at times – being most watches look the same and technology innovations continue to make the watch more of a nice to have vs. a necessary. Watches have managed to stay in pop culture and are sought by watch collectors because of their craftsmanship and intrinsic value.
When a timepiece is created with great craftsmanship, its value skyrockets. Discovering that the single watch you purchased today will have at least 50% increase on its value 10 years from now will make you think twice if watches are really just fashion accessories.
Craftsmanship and value are the two things where you’d want to put your money on in terms of building your watch collection. It is best that this collection be a family heirloom that can be passed on from generation to generation. But we’re not saying that only the millionaires could have this collection, there are a wide variety of timepiece brands that would fit what you’re looking for.
You can either get one from each brand, or go for a full collection on just one brand – still depending on your taste and what you’re looking for. However, before making any more purchases, think about how to store your watches first. Taking good care of your assets should be a priority. Value appreciation is useless if you had your watch torn out or stolen after a year or so.
Top-selling watches are vintage watches and luxury watches. With their rising values, it’s an easy profit for any collector if they’d sell one of these. But what really is the difference between the two?
