Irish Delight with St. Patrick’s Day!
|Irish be blessed, it’s St. Patrick’s Day! That means parades, parties, and, of course, green everywhere. Celebrated on March 17th in multiple countries, St. Patrick’s Day offers a chance for everyone to celebrate their Irish pride (regardless of their actual heritage). Green food is passed around, including foods that don’t normally come in that particular shade. More than a fair share of the celebrants partake in drinking, but of course, that’s not what it’s all about.
Did you know that the color originally affiliated with St. Patrick’s Day was blue, and not green? Or that St. Patrick himself was not from Ireland, but from modern-day Wales? Another interesting fact is in Chicago, every year, the river is dyed green by the local plumbers union – and it stays green for about 5 hours. And for the revelers who enjoy drinking to their heart’s content on St. Patrick Day, here’s a cool note: on this day, Guinness sales soar like no other. It is believed that up to 10 million pints of the stout is downed on St. Patrick Day – double the average daily estimate.
