Tech Time on Technology Day!
|Tech celebration time! Just in time for CES! Did you all know that today is National Technology Day? It’s the perfect chance to talk technology, and take the time to be grateful for how much easier our lives are because of it. Do you remember your life before your laptop, before your cell phone – maybe even before your TV? We’re going to take the time to talk tech, and to do that, we’ve included a timeline of the biggest technological advances. Which ones impacted your lives the most? Was it for better, or for worse?
Tech Timeline
- 1839 – Charles Goodyear finally perfects vulcanized rubber.
- 1876 – Alexander Graham Bell patents the telephone.
- 1888 – Nikola Tesla patents the alternating current (AC) electric motor.
- 1890s – Joseph and Louis Lumiere invent movie projectors.
- 1901 – Guglielmo Marconi invents the radio.
- 1903 – Wilbur and Orville Wright build the first airplane.
- 1908 – Henry Ford launches the Model T.
- 1920s – Philo T. Farnsworth invents the electric television.
- 1938 – Roy Plunkett accidentally invents Teflon.
- 1946 – J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly’s device, known as ENIAC, is completed and is regarded as the first ever computer.
- 1950s – Percy Spencer accidentally discovers how to cook using microwaves, ends up inventing the microwave oven.
- 1969 – Astronauts walk on the moon.
- 1973 – Martin Cooper creates the first mobile cellular device.
- 1973 – Robert Metcalfe discovers a way to link computers together and calls it ‘Ethernet.’
- 1976 – Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs launch the Apple I.
- 1980s – James Dyson invents a bagless, cyclonic vacuum cleaner
- 1981 – IBM releases the personal computer (PC).
- 1989 – Tim Berners-Lee creates the World Wide Web.
- 1997 – An agreement is made to make Wi-Fi a worldwide standard for wireless internet
- 2001 – Apple unveils their iPod mp3 music player.
