Strengthen Relationships with Garnet

January Birthstone

garnet2Garnets come in different types and in a rainbow of colors – from the deep red Bohemian Garnet (Pyrope) to the vibrant greens of the Russian Demantoid and African Tsavorite. They’re also seen appearing in the oranges and browns of Spessartite and Hessonite and the subtle pinks and purples of Rhododendron.

References to the gemstone dates back to 3100 B.C., when the Egyptians used them as inlays jewelry. They were also seen in Ancient Greece, associated with Hades and Persephone and in the Ancient Romans where it was used to engrave portraits of the Caesar, what they considered to be their living god.

It is also believed to light up the night and protect their owners and have long been carried by travelers.
