It’s SUMMER Time: Protect your eyes from UV rays

Extended exposure to the sun’s UV rays has been linked to eye damage — including cataracts, macular degeneration, pingueculae and pterygia and photokeratitis that can cause temporary vision loss.

EyeThe cumulative effects of spending long hours in the sun without adequate eye protection can increase the likelihood of developing the following eye disorders:

Snow Blindness (Photokeratitis) – A temporary but painful burn to the cornea caused by a day at the beach without sunglasses;

Cataract – A clouding of the eye’s lens that can blur vision

Skin Cancer (around the Eyelids) – Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer to affect the eyelids.

Studies suggest that anyone who spends time outdoors is at risk for eye problems from UV radiation. Wearing sunglasses will lessen the damage it may cause or even avoid it.

This Summer, choose the right sunglasses that will protect you
