Is anyone else as excited as we are for Trivia Day? Every year, Trivia Day is celebrated across the US on January 4th, so we made a post filled with hand-picked fun facts. Have you ever wondered about Abraham Lincoln’s hobbies? Or did you know of the first few ideas Disney had for the Seven Dwarfs? Were you aware of the original use of bubble wrap when it was first made? We’ll address all these trivia ticklers and more, and we’ll make sure to include links to our relevant auctions for those of you who to do more than read.

  • President Lincoln loved cats – in fact, he loved them so much that, when asked about her husband’s hobbies, Mary Todd Lincoln responded with “cats.”
  • Disney went through several ideas before settling on the Seven Dwarf names we know and love – discarded suggestions include Tubby, Chesty, Wheezy, and Burpy.
  • Uncooked rice will not make pigeons explode.
  • Bubble Wrap was originally intended to be used as wallpaper.
  • In 1970, the #16 track on the Billboard Hot 100 was Sesame Street’s “Rubber Duckie.”
  • Banging your head against a wall burns 150 calories an hour.
  • The creator of the Frisbee was cremated and turned into Frisbees when he passed away.
  • Pikachurin is a retinal protein first described in 2008; it is named after Pikachu from the famous Pokemon franchise.
  • There is a book called Truax written to refute all the claims made in the famous Dr. Seuss book The Lorax.
  • A licking machine at Purdue University has found that it takes roughly 364 licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.
  • The first government to fund and support anti-smoking/anti-tobacco campaigns was Nazi Germany.
  • There was a successful Kickstarter campaign for a camera that attaches to a bird feeder to take up-close photos of visiting birds.
  • Sacramento’s public library now features a “Library of Things,” where patrons can check out items like sewing machines, games, and musical instruments.
